Payday: The Heist and Left 4 Dead Crossover Coming
In 2008, Valve created a new kind of multiplayer first-person shooter (FPS) with Left 4 Dead. The next year, Valve released a sequel, Left 4 Dead 2. Both were critically and commercially successful. Then, in 2011, developer Overkill Software released Payday: The Heist, a bank-robbing interpretation of the Left 4 Dead formula.
In a strange move, Overkill Software has announced on their blog that they are working on some kind of Payday and Left 4 Dead collaboration. Not much is known about the project, but Overkill Software’s game director Ulf Andersson did write “it is so exciting that it will have some players check into the hospital before we are done.”
-Nick’s take: This is pretty strange, I have to say. Payday: The Heist is nowhere near as good as Left 4 Dead from what I’ve heard (never played Payday), but the two are certainly similar. Maybe we’ll get a game in which zombies rob banks?
Now THIS is great gaming news! What do I do now?
