You may remember that Assassin’s Creed publisher/developer Ubisoft was being sued by John Beiswenger, the author of a novel called Link. Mr. Beiswenger claimed that Ubisoft stole plot elements from his book and was suing to potentially stop the release of Assassin’s Creed III. Today, Mr. Beiswenger’s lawyer, Kelly Clements Keller of the Keller Law Firm, sent out a press release basically stating that Mr. Beiswenger has voluntarily dismissed his suit against Ubisoft, but still believes the company stole ideas from his novel and may pursue legal action against them at some time in the future.
Mr. Beiswenger was also suing the website GameTrailers.com for publishing videos of the Assassin’s Creed games. GameTrailers and Mr. Beiswenger have settled out of court.
-Nick’s take: It looks like Assassin’s Creed III will be releasing on October 30 after all. I think Mr. Beiswenger’s claim may have had some merit, though, so maybe he’ll still end up getting some money from Ubisoft at some point.
