New Video Game From NASA

Most every little kid I knew way back when had this dream to become an astronaut and work for NASA. I suppose that for many of my generation, this was the cool thing. Though the kids of today might have different aspirations, I think that NASA is still as cool as ever – minus the exploding and malfunctioning spaceships of the recent years.
Anyhow, what I just heard gives proof to my idea – NASA is jumping into the video game bandwagon! Ever heard of these names? Virtual Heroes, Project Whitecard and Information in Place? These are the three game developers that are going to head the project that NASA has started.
Dubbed “Astronaut: Moon, Mars & Beyond,” the game is actually going to be a massive multiplayer online video game (MMO) that, according to NASA, is foremost about fun. At this point, I can barely contain my excitement. Imagine the dreams of a young child somehow coming alive decades later! While I might not be able to don a spacesuit and blast off to outer space, a video game might be just as good.
More information from Live Science:
“The single biggest point that was pushed forward by the game community was that you have to let game design lead the development,” said Daniel Laughlin, project manager for NASA Learning Technologies at the agency’s Goddard Earth Science and Technology Center in Maryland. “It’s easy to build a game that’s no fun. It’s hard to build a game that’s successful and fun.”
And when should we expect the game? A demo should be out by the end of this year. A project this huge will understandably take a while to be completed. The demo should give us a glimpse…can’t wait!!!
Now THIS is great gaming news! What do I do now?
