Jump! For Guitar Hero: Van Halen

Trivia time! Which band fits the following bits of information?

-formed in Pasadena, California in 1972
-released a self-titled debut album in 1978
-has sold more than 80 million albums worldwide (as of 2007)
-had more Billboard Hot 100 hits than any other hard rock or heavy metal band in the 80s
- the 19th best selling band/artist of all time with sales of over 56 million albums in the USA.

Hardcore fans would know by now who I am talking about – Van Halen! And while this is NOT a music blog, I am pretty sure that you all love Guitar Hero. Who doesn’t anyway?

The news is that Activision might be coming up with a Guitar Hero version with Van Halen as the focus. This is really not a surprise. Ever since they came out with Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, speculation has been rife about which band was going to be featured next. We all know about Metallica – the game has been released. Now, it’s Van Halen’s turn.

While this is so exciting, I have to rain a little bit on your parade and tell you that nothing official has been released about creating this video game. The official story, according to Gamespot is:

While Kotick’s mention of Van Halen riled up gamers old enough to remember “Hot for Teacher” being played on boomboxes at junior high cornfield keggers, it wasn’t an official announcement of Guitar Hero: Van Halen. So was the comment a slip of the tongue or wishful thinking on the executive’s part? Activision isn’t saying, declining to respond to inquiries about Kotick’s comments.

…Bobby Kotick being the CEO of Activision.

Well, this is all part of being a gamer, right? And besides, if we make enough noise, they might very well give in to the pressure.
