On his blog back in January, Infinity Ward’s Robert ‘fourzerotwo’ Bowling posted some user statistics from Call of Duty 4. Xbox 360 had reached over 10,000,000 unique users, while Playstation 3 And PC tracked at over 4,000,000. since then Xbox live unique users has reportedly gone up to 13 million. Attempting to list the awards that Modern Warfare received would actually make my fingers sore, so I’ll spare myself the pain and just sum this up for you.

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is one of the top selling, and most critically acclaimed video games of all time.

So, what could possibly top it?

The sequel, obviously.

Modern Warfare 2 is set several years after the conclusion of Call of Duty 4. In the time between installments, the Russian Ultranationalist organization has risen to a new level of power under the leadership of Vladimir Makarov, a former associate of the late Imran Zakhaev. You, as Sergeant Gary ‘Roach’ Sanderson, a member of the multinational unit Task Force 141, are charged with stopping the threat posed by the Ultranationalists.

Always on the cutting edge, the Call of Duty series is renowned for its unique brand story-telling and cutting edge graphics. Having played every title in the Call of Duty series, I can honestly say that in each game I actually came to care what happened to the soldiers I went through the game with. The end of Call of Duty 4 ranks as one of the most harrowing and emotional moments I’ve ever experienced in all my years of gaming.

Modern Warfare 2 is being released on November 10, 2009. (11/10/09)

Check back in for continuing coverage and updates until it’s release.
