Tokyo Game Show 2008

One of the most awaited events in the gaming world concluded today.  The Tokyo Game Show kicked off on the 9th for 4 days of everything and anything about games.  This year’s TGS was actually quite important in terms of salvaging the year.  How so?  Simply because a lot of people were very much disappointed with what happened in E3.  They were hoping that the TGS could provide something more.

I was not at the TGS – unfortunately for me – but it seems that it was not that much better than E3.  Kotaku had this report on the second day of the event:

There’s no doubt that this year’s Tokyo Game Show is… a bit underwhelming. Sure, the booth companions continue to be top notch and Kids Corner is hoppin’, but almost everyone we’ve spoken to at the con sees TGS 2008 as something of a dud. Outside of a few PR types who love everything on God’s green earth, most folks are meh-ing the Makuhari Messe.

That translates to a drop in attendance of about 11,000 fewer than last year, at least on the first two days of TGS. Why? Metal Gear Solid 4 is out. Final Fantasy XIII is still not playable. Nintendo isn’t here. Wada’s keynote was a snoozer.

So what happened in the last 2 days?  I have not been able to find anything as of yet but the last 2 days are supposed to be open to the general public so hopefully they were better than the first 2.  In any case, it’s over and done with and we just have to wait and see if there are any new good games coming out soon.
