No Cigar For Heroes Game

The TV series Heroes debuted years ago and it immediately became a hit and gained a huge following. Now that it is in its 3rd season, it just seems to be gaining more ground. I believe that one indicator is when a game developer decides to make a video game based on the series. And that is exactly what happened – or what was supposed to happen – with Heroes.
In July of 2007, Ubisoft formally announced that they were going to make a video game version of Heroes. The slated date of release was supposed to be late this year. However, news has come out that the plans are not going to push through. Jaime Cottino, the public relations director of Ubisoft, said:
The rights to the ‘Heroes’ video game have reverted back to NBC Universal. Ubisoft will no longer produce a video game based on the TV series.
I am sure that this will come as a big disappointment to the gamer fans of the hit TV series. There was no additional reason given as to why Ubisoft has decided not to push through with the original plans. One reason that I can imagine is the fact that Ubisoft has other games which are based on highly successful TV series. Think about Lost and CSI. Both are really very popular TV series but the games have not really met success. Perhaps the bigwigs at Ubisoft have been mulling their performances over and realized that they might end up losing money on a Heroes game. I don’t know. What do you think?
