Wii Controller Availability
Nunchucks are widely available, but they’re useless as a controller without a Wii-mote. Unfortunately, we’ve found that Wiimotes are almost impossible to come by these days, unless…you buy Wii Play.
Wii Play comes bundled with a “free” Wiimote, though we all know the true value of the game is $10 and the true value of the Wiimote is $39.99. So it seems that Nintendo has a cleverly designed ploy to make an extra $10 off almost all Wii-motes being sold these days. Wii Play is largely a joke. No one in their right mind would pay $49.99 for that game. Everyone is buying it for the extra controller.
Which raises the following questions:
1. Should we really be paying $75 after taxes for a controller combo on the Wii? Quite literally, this is the most expensive mainstream console controller ever…straight from Nintendo.
2. Do consumers realize that to get 3 extra controller sets they’re looking at something like $225, virtually the price of the original system ($250 if they buy 3 copies of Wii Play)?
3. Did Nintendo create the controller shortage for the sake of having Wii Play supply, thus guaranteeing an extra $10 profit per controller purchase? If so, then shame on Nintendo!
