This Week’s Releases (UK)
Big week for the PC this week, but not much in the way of console titles.
PC
Agatha Christie: Death on the Nile (May 30th): Adventure title involving Hercule Poirot and oddly enough a death on the nile.
My Model Train (May 30th): I’ve never understood train simulators, and frankly this is even more baffling, though it does have the added bonus of being able to build your own track layout. Setting up Addams Family style train wrecks has never been easier.
Marvel Trading Card Game (May): No specific date for this one, latest sculltebut has it being released in the middle of June sometime. Its an online trading card game much like the Stargate or Magic: The Gatehering.
Blazing Angels 2: Secret Missions (June 1st): Arcade flight action game where you lead an elite group of pilots in a mission to prevent the Nazi’s developing a weapon of mass destruction.
Delaware St. John Vol.3: The Seacliff Tragedy (June 1st): Delaware investigates a demon infested derelict amusement park, very Scooby-Doo.
Far Cry Expansion (Working Title) (June 1st): I’ve not heard anything about this one so I have good reason to doubt its existence. If it does turn up expect more Hawaiian shirted sneakiness from Jack Carver.
Flyboys Squadron (June 1st): Arcade flight shooter with online elements, based on a film I’ve never heard of. Bound to be brilliant then.
History Channel: The Great Battles Of Rome (June 1st): Relive the great battles of the Roman Empire in this supposedly historically accurate strategy title.
Lara Croft Tomb Raider: Anniversary (June 1st): Ten years since the first Tomb Raider, Lara revisits that adventure in this next-gen remake. Based on the Legends engine, the graphics have not only been updated but the puzzles and levels have been made bigger and more challenging. Review later this week.
Lost (June 1st): Don’t expect to figure anything out about the TV series in this adventure title which sees you stranded on the island with the characters from the show, if they let you find out what was going on then there wouldn’t be any point in the next two seasons.
Paradise City (June 1st): Become a ganster on a mission to build up his reputation and influence in the criminal underworld. Poor man’s GTA.
Shadowrun (June 1st): The first game to have cross platform multiplayer (but only if you pay for a Live Gold subscription) between PC and 360. This FPS has been roundly criticised by fans of the pen and paper RPG for stripping any depth out and making it all action, apparently its also been nerfed so that gamepad users can compete with KnM users. Vista only.
The Shield (June 1st): Based on the US cop drama. Very much action oriented.
The Sims: Pet Stories (June 1st): Just when you thought EA had drained every drop of cash from their most successful (and most despised) franchise, along comes another expansion.
Storm of War: Battle of Britain (June 1st): Another 2nd World War flight sim from Ubisoft.
Surf’s Up (June 2nd): Another game based on a film I’ve never heard of, this time with surfing in it. Think Tony Hawks on water, with penguins.
PS3
Nucleus (June 1st): Arcade shooter along the same lines as Geometry Wars but set inside a diseased human body.
PSP
Little Britain: The Video Game (May): Another one with no exact date, though I wouldn’t be surprised if it never appears. An obvious attempt by the owners of the IP to cash in on the show’s popularity, expect it to be really bad if it does turn up.
Legend of the Dragon (June 1st): Based on the cartoon TV series, this traditional fighting game sees the player fighting to obtain the twelve amulets of the Chinese zodiac and prevet them from falling into the hands of the evil Zodiak Master.
Marvel Trading Card Game (June 1st): this is the same game as the PC version, as it is mostly played online it should allow you to play against people using other systems.
Smash Court Tennis 3 (June 1st): Third outing for the tennis title, play games and rise through the international rankings.
360
Blazing Angels 2: Secret Missions (June 1st): See PC releases.
Lost (June 1st): See PC releases.
Naruto: Rise of a Ninja: Based on the manga and anime of the same name. Naruto is a student of ninjitsu who is given a series of challenges and tests by his teacher.
Shadowrun (June 1st): See PC releases.
Surfs Up (June 2nd): See PC releases.
Wii
Legend of the Dragon (June 1st): See PSP releases.
Pokemon Battle Revolution (June 1st): Just when you thought you’d caught them all and could stop for a rest.
Super Mario Galaxy (June 1st): The latest incarnation of Mario, sees the eponymous plumber head off into space to rescue Princess Peach. I tell you if my wife kept getting kidnapped and I had to rescue her I would have left years ago.
World Championship Poker: Featuring Howard Lederer “All In” (June 1st): Another poker game with the name of some poker player attached to it. Buy a pack of cards and get a few mates round, it’ll be cheaper.
DS
Puzzle de Harvest Moon (May 30th): Its a puzzle game based on Harvest Moon, though I’m not sure why the name is in French.
Cool Headers DS (June 1st): Herd sheep whilst trying to prevent your opponents from doing the same. Play it single player or multiplayer over the wi-fi connection.
Disney’s Herbie: Rescue Rally (June 1st): Racing game featuring the lovable beetle from the films.
Meteos: Disney Magic (June 1st): Columns style puzzle game featuring all your favourite Disney characters.
Wario: Master of Disguise (June 1st): Wario returns to form after messing about with mini games in this action platformer.
GBA
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (June 1st): Movie tie in featuring the teenaged wizard as he battles against the evil Voldemort.
Surf’s Up (June 2nd): Peguins, surfing, what more needs to be said?
Thats it for this week.
