The Poster Made Me Do It

Electronic Arts have been given a telling off by the UK’s Advertising Standards Agency for a poster advertising Burnout Dominator. In its report the ASA said that the poster’s tagline “Inner Peace Through Outer Violence” was “likely to cause serious or widespread offence” and said that complainants said that the posters “encourage violence, dangerous driving and anti-social behaviour, such as vandalism.”
The wrist slapping follows EA having been warned that the poster was on the verge of being rejected by the ASA, and the company even went as far as having another version, with the tagline “Destroy your way to inner peace”, to target a younger audience. The poster which drew the complaints, 37 in all, was destined for use on the London Underground and as such EA didn’t feel that it was necessary to use the toned down version. (From Kikizo.)
