Sony To Make Big Announcements At Leipzig
MCV is revealing rumours regarding the announcements that Sony will be making at next month’s Leipzig Games Convention. Sony. true to form, is refusing to comment.
MCV claims that Sony plans to announce a European price cut, on top of the ‘value added’ starter packs announced at E3, and that video-on-demand services and Freeview TV features will be launching across Europe by the end of the year.
In a statement to GamesIndustry.biz Nick Sharples, director of corporate communications, Nick Sharples said, “We do not comment on rumours and speculation.” Surprise, surprise. Whether this is a case of a genuine leak or wishful thinking on the part of journalists will no doubt be revealed soon, though I am hopeful, I must say.
It is quite possible however that this is merely an effort to gain some publicity before Leipzig and for the European release of the new slimline PSP. Due out in September, before anywhere else unusually, and priced at €169 (£114 though expect it to be higher), the slim PSP (model number PSP-2000) is lighter and thinner than the original though the overall shape has not changed as dramatically as that of the DS. Generating the most interest are the new USB charging facility and the video out port, which allow the handheld to be charged via USB from a PC or the PS3, and games to be played on a bigger screen.
