Making DX10 Vista Only Was A Mistake, Says Newell
Gabe Newell, President of Valve, has criticised Microsoft for making DirectX 10 Vista only. Citing figures from a survey of Steam users, only 8% of whom are using vista it seems, he goes on to say that hardware and peripheral manufacturers are wary of creating new devices which support Vista and DX10 simply because there aren’t enough people using it.
In my opinion, which I have never been one to withhold, Microsoft is trying to tie up the PC gaming market so that they can close it down just as they have with Xbox Live. Whats the betting that their next OS (due in about 3 years) will require the user to pay a subscription to MS before they can play games on it (online or not)? The sooner DX10 is released for other OS’s the better, but that of course will never happen.
