Enemy Territory: Quake Wars, Beta Verdict
Yes, I’ve played it. Yes, I had some teething troubles (nothing that reinstalling the video drivers didn’t fix though.) And Yes, it is pretty.
Its only one map, and the only variation you get is playing as either side and as the various classes on either side, but so far, it is good. It runs ok on my machine, which is let down by the graphics card more than anything else (ATI Radeon X1300Pro, in case you were wondering) and still manages to look pretty good at 800×600 and low detail settings.
The styles of play for the Strogg and Humans really are quite different. This is no Battlefield, where the classes on either side are simply carbon copies of each other. There are similarities between the Strogg and Human troops, but they are so overwhelmed by the differences there really is no comparison possible. Splash Damage seem to have achieved something quite different with ET: QW, granted it is only a beta, and as such no assumptions should be made regarding what will end up in the final game. Free beta keys are being released tomorrow sometime, I can heartily reccomend you get hold of one if you can.
