Top 5 Board Games Growing Up

My family used to play board games all the time when I grew up. I thought it would be fun to come up with a list of my favorite 5.

1. Parcheesi

Parcheesi was the family game. We played this more than any other game, far and away. I still love it to this day.

2. Battleship

For some reason I was always under the illusion that I had some secret strategy for beating everyone in my family. Of course, I’d lose 50% of the time. But it was the 50% of wins that convinced me that I had some special strategy when really I was just BSing my way through the game!

3. Hotels

Nope, not Monopoly…but Hotels. It was much quicker and in my opinion much more enjoyable. I loved the actual 3d hotel models that we got to build up as the game moved forward. My only qualm with this game was that it wasn’t fully balanced. The first person to get Presidential usually ended up winning.

4. Operation!Buzzzzzzzzzzzz! We loved this game if for no other reason than the thrill. I’m not sure that you’d call this a board game necessarily, but it counts in my book. Operation was a blast for the whole family and it quickly taught me that I don’t want to be a doctor. 5. Shoots & Ladders The great thing about this game was its simplicity and the way events could turn so quickly. I loved it when one of my brothers got a shoot into last place…even better than when I got a ladder.
